Spinous spider crab
It is a large migratory crustacean. Its shell is full of spines and bumps and can measure up to 20 cm in diameter. Its habitat is located in areas of the Northeast Atlantic and in the Mediterranean Sea.
The Spider Crab, like the rest of the Crabs, is vulnerable during moulting, so it becomes gregarious during this time, presumably to defend itself against predators.
It feeds on starfish, algae, molluscs, urchins, seabed invertebrates such as sea cucumbers and fish, especially flat fish such as sole.
