Common prawn
It is also known as Quisquilla or Esquila. It belongs to the Caridea family. It is a decadopod crustacean, which can inhabit both fresh and salt waters. It lives in temperate, tropical, and cold regions. It inhabits shallow rocky and sandy areas with an abundance of algae.
When they are adults, they feed on algae and animal remains, although they can eat anything that is edible. Larvae feed on zooplankton. Fertilization is internal and females can mate four or five times a year. On our coasts they reproduce from April to September.
It is one of the most appreciated shellfish and its meat is considered exquisite.
